Mechanism of Action

Diethyl Carbamazine Citrate works by killing both the adult worms and their larvae in the blood. It is thought to act as an agonist at the arachidonic acid cascade, causing enhanced production of leukotrienes. This results in inflammation and eventual death of the parasites.

Uses

Diethyl Carbamazine Citrate is used to treat certain types of worm infections, specifically filariasis including lymphatic filariasis and river blindness (onchocerciasis).
