Mechanism of Action

Papaverine HCL is a non-narcotic alkaloid extracted from the opium poppy. It works by inhibiting phosphodiesterase, leading to an increase in cyclic AMP and cyclic GMP, which results in relaxation of smooth muscle.

Uses

Papaverine HCL is used to treat conditions involving spasm of smooth muscle, such as gastrointestinal spasm, biliary colic, and erectile dysfunction. It is also used as a cerebral vasodilator in cerebral vasospasm following subarachnoid hemorrhage.
